LEAP1% Scholarship Fund
The LEAP1% Scholarship Fund provides financial support for Latino and Latina students to attend colleges and universities. Awards are made at the LEAP Annual Conference and Legislative Day, held annually in February in Tacoma.
The fund is made possible by individual donors and corporate and institutional sponsors. Contributions are tax deductible. Sea Mar is a non-profit, 501 (c) 3, organization. To donate to the LEAP1% Fund, click here.
Who will have priority for receiving LEAP1% scholarships?
- Students from low-income families who demonstrate a commitment to their education and who are considered residents for purpose of higher education (1079 students).
- Students who plan to pursue teaching degrees or counseling degrees and who show interest in serving in the public schools. Additional priority will be given to bilingual students.
- Students who are involved in leadership and/or service activities in their schools and communities.
- Grade-point average and other indicators of academic success will be considered, individual and family hardship will be just as important, if not more important, in determining scholarship awards.
Washington State students planning to enroll at a higher education institute during the 2012-13 academic year are eligible to apply.
LEAP1% scholarship awards will range from $1,000 to $5,000.
How to Apply

Answer the question: Considering the priorities listed above, tell us in your answer why you deserve the LEAP1% scholarship (500-word max).

Submit a signed letter of reference from a teacher, counselor, administrator, mentor or someone who is familiar with you as a student (cannot be from a family member).

Submit answers online by Friday, November 18, 2011 at 5:00 pm. TIP: Review all entries before submitting application as you will not be able to save your work on the online application.

Review, Selection, Notification—for awards for academic year 2012-13
A scholarship committee will review all nominations. Following review of nominations by the scholarship committee a phone interview will be conducted with a select number of nominated students in December 2011.
