Data

By using data released by OSPI, LEAP has been able to create graphs and tables highlighting Latino/a students.  Much of the data is centered on the relationship between low socio-economic status and academic achievement, but we have also included data that show the large Latino/a population in our state.

Although the data might suggest a dire educational situation for our state’s Latino/a students, LEAP knows many students are capable of being and are high achieving students.  For example, over the years, Latino/a students have been closing the gap in reading and writing on the 10th grade WASL.  But we also cannot ignore the fact that many of our students continue to struggle at the same time that school districts are witnessing large percentage increases in Latino/a student populations.

We at LEAP invite you to analyze and discuss the data we have posted and create your own dialogue.

Demographic data for the 2006-07 school year:

Below you will find data on enrollment, socio-economic status, and English Language Learner percentages. All tables below feature school districts with total student populations of 500 or more. We at LEAP have done this because there are school districts that either have a very small student population due to their geographic locations or they are school districts that do not include a secondary school.
