2009 Conference

Celebrating 10 Years
1998 - 2008

at the 2009 LEAP Education Conference and Legislative Day
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday
February 4-6, 2009
Tacoma/Olympia

We are proud to announce that LEAP’s 10-year anniversary will be celebrated at the organization’s 2009 Education Conference and Legislative Day. As in the past, there will be educational workshops, a college fair, legislative day visits with elected officials, student leader and parent presentations, and more.

We anticipate remarks from some of Washington’s and the nation’s top educators and elected officials. We have invited New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson, a presidential candidate and highly regarded Latino leader nationally, as the keynote speaker at our scholarship and awards dinner on Thursday evening. (He is not yet confirmed.)

And, this year, showing up with Dr. José Cuellar will be his full band, Dr. Loco’s Rockin’ Jalapeño Band, direct from San Francisco. Dr. Loco, a nationally known educator and musician, is popular with students and they are going to love it when he gets his groove on with his band.

In 2008, nearly 850 attended LEAP’s annual conference and legislative day, including more than 600 middle school, high school and college students from across the state. We anticipate topping 1,000 attendees in 2009.

To help accommodate school institutions to register students, we’ve developed a simplified group registration process to allow reservations to be made without supplying names of participants immediately.

The conference kicks off on Wednesday this year, not Thursday, as it has in the past. We begin at 1:00 pm Wednesday, February 4, 2009, and finish on Friday evening, February 6, following the 10-year anniversary dinner and dance with Dr. Loco and his band.

See the link (top left this page) for lodging and additional conference information.

We hope you will join us for the 2009 annual conference and legislative day!
